The retirement sums for 2025, 2026 and 2027
At 55, CPF opens your Retirement Account (RA) and moves savings into it from your Special and Ordinary Accounts, up to your Full Retirement Sum. From 65, CPF LIFE pays you a monthly income from it for life. The three sums are set for each year’s 55-year-olds, and yours are the ones for the year you turn 55: they don’t change after that, except the Enhanced Retirement Sum, which is the current year’s whenever you top up.

Which sums are mine, and what happens at 55?
Pick the year you were born and put in your Ordinary and Special Account savings at 55. You get your three sums, how much goes into your RA, how much you can take out, and about how much CPF LIFE pays each month from 65. Not 55 yet? Our CPF calculator projects your savings to 55. For each CPF LIFE plan, and what starting later adds, use our CPF LIFE payout calculator.
How the monthly payout is worked out
CPF and the Ministry of Finance publish payout estimates only for the three sums. For every year they cover, the three figures lie on a straight line: about $120 plus 0.753% of what is in your Retirement Account at 55, each month from 65. We draw that line through each year’s BRS and FRS figures and read your amount off it, rounded to $10 as CPF rounds. Tested against the ERS figures, which we did not use to draw the line, it lands within $10 every time. Below the BRS the line runs past CPF’s figures, so read those amounts as rougher. The checks
The estimates assume CPF LIFE’s Standard plan, payouts from 65 and nothing added after 55. CPF’s two pages describe the interest assumption differently: one says “CPF interest rate of 4%”, the other “an interest rate of 6% per annum” for a male member; both give the same three payouts. Your own estimate, with your plan and later top-ups, is in CPF’s monthly payout estimator.
What happens at 55, by how much you have
The same rules for this year’s 55-year-olds at seven balances. You can always take out $5,000, and anything above the Full Retirement Sum. With a property whose lease lasts until you are 95, you can keep just the Basic Retirement Sum and take out the rest, up to the FRS. That gives you more cash now and a smaller monthly payout later.

What a top-up to your Retirement Account adds
From 55 you can top up your RA in cash, or with CPF transfers from family, up to the current Enhanced Retirement Sum. CPF’s own payout figures show what each extra dollar buys.
| More in your RA at 55 | More a month from 65 | More a year | Paid out over 21.6 years |
|---|---|---|---|
| $2,000The most the matching grant matches in a year | $15 | $180 | $3,900 |

| $220,400From the FRS to the ERS | $1,660 | $19,920 | $430,300 |
On CPF’s 2026 figures, whatever the amount, the extra payouts add up to what you put in by about age 76. CPF says life expectancy at 65 was 21.6 years in 2025 (“about 86 years old”, in its words); over those years the extra payouts come to about 2.0 times what was put in, in dollars. That leaves out the interest the money could have earned elsewhere, and payouts are for life whether that is shorter or longer.
- Top-ups can’t be taken back. Cash top-ups and CPF transfers are, in CPF’s words, irreversible: they can’t be withdrawn for anything else.
- Tax relief: up to $8,000 a year for cash top-ups to yourself and up to $8,000 more for top-ups to family, on top-ups up to the current FRS. Top-ups that get the matching grant get no relief.
- From 55, the limit is the current year’s ERS ($440,800 in 2026), and it rises every January, so you can top up again each year.
- Waiting pays too: each year you put off CPF LIFE payouts after 65 raises them by up to 7%, up to 35% at 70.

Top-ups from the government: the Budget 2026 top-up and the matching grant
Two schemes add to the CPF of members with less saved. The Budget 2026 top-up is a one-off payment of up to $1,500, paid in December 2026 without applying. The Matched Retirement Savings Scheme (MRSS) matches cash top-ups dollar for dollar, up to $2,000 a year. Check both against CPF’s published criteria:

The sum set aside at 55 went from $80,000 (the Minimum Sum, July 2003) to $220,400 (the FRS, 2026): 2.76 times, or 4.5% a year. Prices rose 1.56 times from 2003 to 2025 (SingStat’s consumer price index, 2.0% a year), so in 2025 prices the 2003 sum was about $124,900. The sum has grown faster than prices; CPF gives three reasons for raising it: the cost of living, longer lives and a rising standard of living.

What changed, and why
2026
Budget 2026: a one-off CPF top-up of up to $1,500 in December 2026 for Singaporeans born in 1976 or earlier with less than the 2026 BRS, by savings and home Annual Value.
2025
The Matched Retirement Savings Scheme grant went from $600 to $2,000 a year (with a $20,000 lifetime cap), and the age cap of 70 was removed.
2025
The Enhanced Retirement Sum went from 3 to 4 times the BRS: $426,000 in 2025 instead of the $319,500 announced in 2022. The Special Account closes at 55; its savings go to the new Retirement Account, then the Ordinary Account.
2022
Budget 2022 set the BRS for the five cohorts turning 55 in 2023 to 2027, 3.5% higher each year, so 2027’s BRS is $114,100.
“These increases help account for longer-term inflation and improvements in standard of living.”
Ministry of Finance, Budget 2022 Annex E-3. Source
2016
The Minimum Sum became the Retirement Sum, in three levels: the Basic Retirement Sum ($80,500 in 2016), the Full Retirement Sum (2 times the BRS) and the Enhanced Retirement Sum (3 times). A member who owns a property with a long enough lease can set aside the BRS instead of the FRS and take out the rest.
2003
The Minimum Sum was $80,000 for members turning 55 from 1 July 2003, then raised every 1 July.

Our estimate, made 27 Oct 2026: not CPF’s. ERS at 4 times the BRS, today’s rule.
How we estimate, and how sure it is
The government sets the BRS and doubles it for the FRS. For 2023 to 2027 it raised the BRS by 3.5% a year and rounded to the nearest $100: taking each year’s BRS, adding 3.5% and rounding gives the next one exactly, 5 times out of 5. We carry that on from 2027’s $114,100.
The rate is the part we can’t know. For 2017 to 2022 the BRS rose 2.8% to 3.2% a year (3.0% on average), which is why we also show 3%. 2023 to 2027 were set in February 2022, the year before the first of them.
When the next years are announced, we keep this estimate on the page next to them, with how far off it was.
Common mistakes about the retirement sums
- “I have to hit the FRS by 55.” No: there is nothing to hit. At 55 your RA gets what you have, up to the FRS. With less, your monthly payouts from 65 are smaller, and you can top up later.
- “The sums keep rising, so my target keeps moving.” Not after 55. CPF: “the BRS and FRS amounts are fixed based on the year you turn 55”. Only the ERS, the top-up limit, rises each year.
- “Below the BRS, I can’t take anything out at 55.” You can always take out up to $5,000, whatever your balance (CPF’s worked examples).
- “A top-up is savings I can take back.” It isn’t. CPF calls cash top-ups and CPF transfers irreversible: they are “reserved for monthly payouts” and can’t be withdrawn for anything else.
- “Every dollar I top up gets tax relief.” Only top-ups up to the current FRS ($220,400 in 2026) get relief, and at most $8,000 a year for yourself and $8,000 for family. Top-ups that get the matching grant get no relief.
- “I need to apply for the $1,500 Budget top-up.” No: CPF works it out from its records and pays it in December 2026. GovBenefits shows it then, with Singpass.
- “The ERS is three times the BRS.” It was until 2024. From 2025 it is four times: $440,800 in 2026.

Questions people ask
What is the Full Retirement Sum for 2026?
$220,400, for members turning 55 in 2026 (born 1971). The Basic Retirement Sum is $110,200 and the Enhanced Retirement Sum $440,800. CPF estimates monthly payouts from 65 of about $950, $1,780 and $3,440 on the Standard plan. (CPF) Our CPF LIFE payout calculator shows all three plans on your own balance.
What is the FRS for 2027?
$228,200 for members turning 55 in 2027 (born 1972), with a BRS of $114,100 and an ERS of $456,400. The BRS and FRS were set in Budget 2022, 3.5% a year above the year before; the ERS is four times the BRS, the rule since 2025.
What will the FRS be in 2030?
It hasn’t been announced. Our estimate is $253,000, at the 3.5% a year set for 2023 to 2027 (about $249,200 at 3%). It is an estimate, not CPF’s figure. We will put CPF’s figure next to it when it is announced.
What happens if I don’t have the BRS at 55?
Your RA gets what you have, after the $5,000 you can always take out. If you were born in 1958 or later, CPF LIFE starts by itself only if you have at least $60,000 in your retirement savings when payouts begin. With less, you get monthly payouts until the money runs out, unless you choose to join. Below the current BRS you may get the matching grant on cash top-ups. The checker above tells you.
Can I use my HDB flat to meet the Full Retirement Sum?
Yes, if you own a property in Singapore whose lease lasts until you are at least 95. You keep the BRS in your RA and can take out the rest above it, up to the FRS. The property can count for up to half the FRS. Your monthly payouts are then those of the smaller sum.
How much can I top up to my Retirement Account?
From 55, up to the current year’s ERS: $440,800 in 2026. That limit is the same whenever you turned 55, and it rises every January.
Is topping up to the ERS worth it?
On CPF’s 2026 figures, each $10,000 more at 55 adds about $75 a month from 65, so the extra payouts add up to what you put in by about age 76, and keep coming for life. The cost is that you can’t take the money back as a lump sum. Whether that suits you depends on your other savings and your health. The table above shows the sums in dollars.
Why do the retirement sums go up every year?
CPF gives three reasons: the rising cost of living, longer life expectancy (21.6 years at 65 in 2025) and a rising standard of living. The Ministry of Finance, setting 2023 to 2027: “These increases help account for longer-term inflation and improvements in standard of living.”
What was the Minimum Sum?
The single sum before 2016. It was set from 1 July each year, from $80,000 in 2003 to $161,000 in 2015. From 2016 it became the Full Retirement Sum, with the Basic at half and the Enhanced at one and a half times. The history table above has every year.
Where the numbers come from
- The sums for 2025 to 2027, the payouts for 2026, the property and ERS rules and the reasons for raising the sums are from CPF Board’s pages (linked in each section), read on 27 Oct 2026 and re-read on our update schedule. A job compares CPF’s retirement sum page with ours twice a day; if they stop matching, a notice goes at the top of this page until we have checked.
- What happens at 55 follows CPF’s worked examples of withdrawals (January 2025). The Budget 2026 top-up and the matching grant are from CPF’s pages and its questions and answers.
- Older years are from CPF’s own pages as the Internet Archive kept them (2015 and 2020), CPF’s table for 2017 to 2020, and the Ministry of Finance’s Budget 2022 annex for 2022 to 2027 and their payouts. Prices are SingStat’s consumer price index.
- The estimate for years not announced yet, and the payout for amounts between the three sums, are ours; the method is on the page and labelled each time.
- The checkers run in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere. They are a guide to CPF’s rules, not your CPF statement: your Retirement dashboard has your own figures. No one pays us for this page, and it has no affiliate links. Numbers.sg is not CPF Board and is not endorsed by it. See our disclaimer, how we get our numbers and corrections.
