In short

On S$5,000 a month, a citizen aged 30 gets S$4,000 in the bank, after S$1,000 of CPF. Tax isn’t taken from monthly pay: next year’s bill works out to about S$87 a month, counting only Earned Income and CPF Relief. Figures use 2026 rates and YA 2027 rules.

Compare two job offers

A higher salary can bring home less than a lower one with more AWS, and CPF treats a bonus differently from monthly pay. Put in both and see the year.

Uses the age, status and fund from the calculator above. Leave out what isn’t promised: a bonus is only what the offer says it is.

Why your payslip may differ

  • Self-help funds. Employers deduct these with CPF, so pick yours in the calculator.
  • Overtime, commissions and allowances. Pay on top of your salary can change your CPF and your fund.
  • Unpaid leave or a part month. Your wages for the month are lower, so CPF is too.
  • Your age band. CPF rates change from the month after you turn 55, 60, 65 or 70. The calculator uses one age for the whole year.
  • Bonus timing. The calculator puts the whole AWS and bonus in one month.

Self-help funds: CDAC, SINDA, MBMF and ECF

CPF Board collects four funds, and your employer deducts them from your wages. The amount depends on your total wages for the month, bonus included, so it can be higher in a bonus month.

  • CDAC: citizens and PRs of the Chinese community.
  • ECF: citizens and PRs of the Eurasian community.
  • MBMF: Muslim citizens, PRs and foreign employees.
  • SINDA: citizens, PRs and Employment Pass holders of Indian descent.

If you don’t want to contribute, or want to give a different amount, CPF Board says to contact the fund itself.

If you’re a foreigner

Foreigners pay no CPF, so more reaches the bank each month and there’s no CPF Relief. Pick “Foreigner” in the calculator and it asks your days in Singapore, because IRAS taxes each case differently:

  • 183 days or more: tax resident, at resident rates with reliefs.
  • 61 to 182 days: non-resident. Employment income is taxed at 15% or at resident rates, whichever gives more tax, with no reliefs.
  • 60 days or fewer: employment income is generally exempt, but not for directors, public entertainers or professionals.

You can also count as a resident with fewer days in one year. IRAS’s residency rules cover 3 consecutive years, and a continuous stay of 183 days or more across two years.

Of the self-help funds, CDAC and ECF cover citizens and PRs only. MBMF also covers Muslim foreign employees, and SINDA also covers Employment Pass holders of Indian descent.

Questions people ask

How much is take-home pay on S$5,000 in Singapore?

A citizen aged 30 gets S$4,000 in the bank after S$1,000 of CPF, before any self-help fund, and has about S$87 of tax a month to set aside. Change the age, status or fund in the calculator.

Is income tax taken from my monthly salary?

Usually not. IRAS assesses you the year after you earn the income, so your payslip shows CPF but no tax. That’s why the calculator shows tax to set aside as its own figure.

Does CPF stop above S$8,000?

On monthly pay, yes: CPF is worked out on pay up to the Ordinary Wage ceiling, which is S$8,000 for 2026. Bonuses have their own limit: the year’s S$102,000 ceiling less the ordinary wages that attracted CPF.

How do I convert net salary to gross?

Gross pay is before CPF and net pay is what reaches your bank. To bring home S$5,000, a citizen aged 30 needs S$6,249 a month, before any self-help fund. Choose “My take-home” in the calculator for your own age and status.

What does an employer really pay?

Your pay, the employer’s CPF and the Skills Development Levy. The calculator adds those up for the year. It leaves out insurance, foreign worker levies and other costs.

Can I lower the tax figure?

Yes, if you have other reliefs. This page counts only Earned Income and CPF Relief. “Add reliefs in the tax calculator”, under the results, takes your figures to the income tax calculator, which has every relief and what an SRS or CPF top-up saves.

The checks

The page runs official figures through its own sums every time it loads.

How we work this out

CPF follows CPF Board’s rate tables: the total rounded to the nearest dollar, the employee’s share rounded down, and the employer pays the rest. Tax follows IRAS’s rates for the current Year of Assessment, with Earned Income Relief by age and CPF Relief. It assumes the same pay in all 12 months and leaves out Workfare payments. The next S$100 line runs the same sums on S$100 more.
