In short

The IPPT is scored out of 100: 50 points for the 2.4km run and 25 points each for push-ups and sit-ups, read from tables for your age. NSmen pass at 51, earn cash from 61, and reach Silver at 75 and Gold at 85, or 90 for Commando and Guards. We found no change to these tables since 1 April 2015.

What full marks and Gold take at each age

Each age group’s standard is a little kinder than the one before. A man under 22 needs 60 push-ups for full marks, and a man of 58 needs 40.

The fewest reps, or the slowest run, that earn each number of points. A dash means the table skips that score. Every age group is in the CSV.

Where points are cheap

The tables don’t reward every rep equally, which is why the calculator looks for the smallest change and not just the next point. Take a man of 23.

  • Push-ups: from 15 to 25 reps, each rep adds 1 or 2 points. From 26 reps up it takes about three reps for a point.
  • Sit-ups: from 14 to 37 reps, a rep adds about a point. Beyond that it takes three or four.
  • The run: from 14:40 to 16:00, every 10 seconds adds 2 points. From 11:50 to 14:40 it adds 1. Between 10:30 and 11:50 you need 20 seconds for a point, and faster than 10:30 it’s back to 1.

So a weak station is usually the quickest place to find points, and the run has twice the points of either static station.

If you don’t pass

Your IPPT window as an NSman runs from your birthday to the day before your next one. MINDEF’s answers set out what follows.

  • Partial failure: at least 51 points, but no points on push-ups or sit-ups. You retest that station within 90 days or before your window ends, whichever is earlier, with no cash for the retest. Miss it and you retake the whole IPPT. The run can’t be retested alone.
  • NS FIT instead: you can pass the IPPT or complete NS FIT, ten sessions that include one IPPT attempt.
  • Mandatory NS FIT: if you skip the IPPT, don’t pass, or don’t finish NS FIT in your window, you owe 10 mandatory sessions in the next window. Passing the IPPT during that window clears them. Missing them can lead to investigation and disciplinary action.
  • Aged 35 or over: you must clear the SAF Health Screening Programme each year before an IPPT or NS FIT.

Pre-enlistees

Pre-enlistees use the same three stations. At least 61 points, with at least 1 point at each station, can take 8 weeks off full-time NS by skipping the Physical Training Phase. The result must be in at least 14 days before your Physical Training Phase enlistment, it’s valid for a year, and you can retake the test as often as you like until then.

Before October 2027, only PES A or B1 pre-enlistees can take it. From October 2027, under the refreshed Medical Classification System, eligible pre-enlistees are told through OneNS. MINDEF’s April 2026 fact sheet keeps the 61-point mark.

Questions people ask

How is the IPPT scored?

Three stations add up to 100: the 2.4km run is worth 50 points, and push-ups and sit-ups 25 each. Each result is read from a table for your age group, and you do the static stations before the run.

What score do I need for Gold?

85 points, or 90 for Commando and Guards. Silver takes 75. MINDEF’s 2015 table names only those two vocations, but its 2014 sheet also listed Divers, so a Diver should check OneNS.

What is the IPPT pass mark?

51 for NSmen, who also need at least 1 point on each static station, and 61 for NSFs and Regulars. MINDEF says your own standard depends on your age, vocation and ORD date, and OneNS shows it.

How much do I get for Gold, Silver or Pass with Incentive?

S$500, S$300 and S$200 for NSmen. A plain Pass earns no cash.

Did the IPPT scoring change in 2026?

We found no change. The tables took effect on 1 April 2015. In November 2026 we compared CMPB’s current copies of the men’s tables with MINDEF’s, and they match; we found no later copy of the women’s tables. What changed in 2026 is who can take the pre-enlistee IPPT from October 2027, not the scoring.

Why does an old article give a different score?

The first tables, from the 2014 pilot, were revised before the IPPT went live, and Gold moved from 81 to 85. An article from 2014 can quote scores that no longer apply.

Which age group am I in?

The tables run in 14 groups, from under 22 to 58–60. The MINDEF pages we read don’t say which date sets your age for the test, so if you’re near the edge of a group, check OneNS. The calculator uses the age you enter.

How are run times rounded?

MINDEF’s table reads “time at or under” in 10-second steps, so 12:31 scores as 12:40.

Are women’s tables different?

Yes. MINDEF’s servicewomen’s tables use bent-knee push-ups, and the run scale starts at 10:00, not 8:30. The calculator applies the NSF and Regular award lines to them, because NSmen’s lines don’t apply. Check your own standard with your unit.

What if I’m exempt from a station?

MINDEF sets pro-rated passes for NSmen with partial exemption: 26 of 50 points on the run alone, or 39 of 75 on one static station and the run.

Who has to take the IPPT?

Active NSmen with PES A, B, B1, B2 or C1, until 45 for officers and 40 for WOSEs, or until they move to MINDEF Reserve.

The checks

MINDEF’s tables are scans, so we transcribed all 4,177 cells, then compared each cell’s image against every other cell with the same number and looked again at the 45 that stood out. The page runs these tests on that copy every time it loads.

How we work this out

  • Your score: the points for your reps and time in your age group’s tables. More reps than the table lists score full marks, and a run slower than the last row scores 0.
  • Smallest change: we try every mix of extra reps and faster runs, and count one rep and 10 seconds as one step each. That’s a guide: your own easy gains may differ.
  • Lap pace: the 2.4km time divided by six 400m laps.
  • What we can’t see: your vocation, ORD date or medical status. This is an estimate, and OneNS decides your result and award.
  • This page shows numbers, not advice. See our disclaimer, how we get our numbers and corrections.

Scoring tables and award standards: Ministry of Defence, Singapore (MINDEF), release of 27 February 2015, Tables 1 to 7, and CMPB’s pre-enlistee IPPT score tables, last checked on 6 Nov 2026. All credit for them is MINDEF’s. The route, lap paces and age comparisons are our own sums, not MINDEF’s. This page is not connected with or endorsed by MINDEF, CMPB or the SAF.
