What your gold is worth

Put in the purity and the weight and see what the gold in it is worth at UOB’s prices and Mustafa’s rate.

Stamped on the piece: 916 is 22 karat.

In grams; a jeweller’s receipt or a kitchen scale gives it.

Start from an example

20 g of 916 (22K): 18.32 g of pure gold

What the gold in it is worth
PricedThe gold in it
At UOB’s buying price$2,929.37
At UOB’s selling price$2,979.20
At Mustafa’s 22K-916 rate$3,092.00

Each $1 a gram on the price of pure gold is $18.32 on it. This is the gold in it, not what a shop pays: a shop buying it sets its own price, and a new piece costs more: 9% GST on jewellery, and any workmanship charge.

Our estimate: the weight × its purity × UOB’s Gold Savings Account price a gram, taken as pure gold. UOB calls its prices indicative only. How we work it out

Selling back loses less on a big bar too: 1.8% on the 1 kg bar against 22.3% on the 1 g bar, if you sold it straight back.

916 gold

916 gold is 91.6% gold by weight, 22 karat (22/24). The rest is other metals.

At Mustafa’s rates, 916 jewellery is $154.60 a gram against $170.61 a gram for its 999 bar: 90.6% of the 999 price. The gold alone in a gram of 916, at UOB’s buying price, is $146.47.

A shop prices a new piece itself and may add a workmanship charge; ask what it is. Jewellery isn’t investment gold, so 9% GST applies: IRAS’s guide says “Examples of non-IPM are jewelry”. For a 20 g necklace, the gold at Mustafa’s rate is $3,092.00.

Common mistakes about gold prices

  • “The price on the news is what I pay.” The news usually quotes US$ an ounce. In Singapore you pay in S$ a gram, and a dealer’s selling price is above its buying price: the cards above show today’s gap at UOB.
  • “A gram is a gram, whatever the size.” At UOB a small bar or coin costs more a gram than a big bar: the size table shows by how much today.
  • “A 916 piece is worth its weight at the 999 price.” Only 91.6% of it is gold. The calculator works out the gold in it for each purity.
  • “What I paid for jewellery is what the gold is worth.” A new piece’s price carries 9% GST, and any workmanship charge the shop adds, on top of the gold. The calculator shows the gold alone; a shop buying it back sets its own price.

From UOB’s and Mustafa’s own prices and IRAS’s guide, linked in each section; the shares are this page’s, worked out from them.

Questions people ask

What is the gold price in Singapore today?

UOB sells 999 gold at $162.62 a gram and buys it back at $159.90 (its Gold Savings Account, 10:42 pm, 30 Oct SGT). Mustafa’s rate for 22K-916 jewellery is $154.60 a gram, and $170.61 a gram for its 999 bar (read 10:12 am, 31 Oct SGT). Smaller bars and coins generally cost more a gram, and jewellery carries 9% GST.

Is there GST on gold in Singapore?

Not on investment gold: since 1 October 2012, gold bars, wafers and coins of at least 99.5% purity that meet IRAS’s conditions are exempt. IRAS’s guide puts it as “It is gold of at least 99.5% purity, silver of at least 99.9% purity or platinum of at least 99% purity”. Jewellery is not investment gold, so 9% GST applies. (IRAS)

What is the difference between 999 and 916 gold?

999 is 99.9% gold (24 karat), the purity of bars and coins. 916 is 91.6% gold (22 karat), the purity Mustafa posts its jewellery rate for. A gram of 916 holds 0.916 g of gold.

Where can I sell my gold?

UOB buys back only gold bars and coins bought from UOB or OUB Singapore, with the invoice and the seal intact, and from 1 March 2025 only from UOB account holders, in its own words. Jewellers, pawnshops and other dealers buy gold at prices they set themselves; this page doesn’t list them. The calculator gives the value of the gold in your piece to compare an offer against.

Why does a small bar cost more a gram than a big one?

UOB prices each bar and coin on its own, and the smaller ones generally cost more a gram. The size table shows today’s price a gram for every UOB bar and coin, and how much more each is than the lowest.

How often do gold prices change?

UOB gives the date and time of its prices on its page; we read UOB’s list every hour from 9:10 am to 9:10 pm, and Mustafa’s rates at 10 am and 5 pm.

How we get these prices

  • A job reads UOB’s gold and silver price list every hour from 9:10 am to 9:10 pm, with UOB’s own date and time for the prices. Mustafa’s home page doesn’t answer our server, so it is read from the editor’s computer at 10 am and 5 pm. A price is refused if UOB’s gram price is outside $50 to $1,000, its buying price isn’t below its selling price, either source moves more than 8% from our last read within four days, or Mustafa’s 916 rate isn’t 85% to 97% of its own 999 price; the page then keeps the last good read and says when it was.
  • The world price is the World Bank’s monthly average for gold in US$ a troy ounce (the Pink Sheet, CC BY 4.0), converted with SingStat’s monthly average S$ per US$ and 31.1035 g an ounce: our conversion, from January 1988, the first month SingStat gives. Both are re-read once a day.
  • The calculator multiplies the weight by its purity and by UOB’s Gold Savings Account price a gram, taken as pure gold. It is the gold in the piece, not a shop’s offer.
  • GST: IRAS’s GST: Guide on Exemption of Investment Precious Metals (IPM), Twentieth Edition, 30 Jan 2026, read 27 Oct 2026 and re-read on our update schedule.
  • We show UOB’s and Mustafa’s prices as facts, with each named and its page linked; Numbers.sg is not connected to either, no one pays us, and this page has no affiliate links. It is not advice on whether to buy gold. The calculator runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere. See our disclaimer, how we get our numbers and corrections.
