Check a retailer’s price against SP’s tariff
If you buy from a retailer, put in the price on your contract, as a fixed price a kWh or a discount off SP’s tariff. You get what it would have cost against SP’s tariff in each of the last 12 quarters, at your use. We don’t list retailers or their plans, and we don’t say which to choose.
When the next tariff is set, and our estimate
- 1 Oct to 15 Dec 2026 Gas prices over these days set the energy part of the next tariff.
- Late December 2026 SP announces the new tariff, usually on the last working day or two of the quarter. Its last releases came out on 30 Dec 2025, 31 Mar 2026, 30 Jun 2026, 30 Sep 2026.
- 1 Jan 2027 The new tariff applies to the electricity you use from this day. Add to my calendar
SP Group, media release on the tariff for Oct to Dec 2026: “The energy cost component of the electricity tariffs for each quarter is set using the average natural gas prices in the first two and a half months of the preceding quarter.” The gas is “tied to oil prices by commercial contracts”, in SP’s words. See also EMA’s explanation.
Our estimate of the next tariff
About 32.95¢ a kWh before GST from 1 Jan 2027 (35.92¢ with GST), 32.30¢ to 33.60¢ if oil holds at its latest price before GST. This is our estimate, not SP’s. Oil prices are known for 16 of the 53 weekdays in the window so far (Brent to 23 Oct); it firms up as the window fills and is fixed on 15 Dec.
How: SP doesn’t publish the gas price, so we use the oil price it follows. We take Brent crude in S$ (US Energy Information Administration, via FRED, at the Federal Reserve’s S$ rate) averaged over the same window, and move SP’s current tariff by the change in that average from the last window, scaled by how far the tariff has moved for each S$1 of the average in every quarter since 2014 (0.095 cents a kWh per S$ a barrel now). Days still to come are assumed at the latest price. The range is the error we beat in 9 of 10 past quarters with the whole window known; until then, oil can move it further.
Our record, tested quarter by quarter: for each of the last 36 quarters, using the oil prices for its whole window and only the tariffs set before it, the estimate was within 1 cent of SP’s tariff in 34 and moved the right way in 35; on average 0.39¢ off, at most 1.51¢. We show an estimate only while at least 85% of quarters are within 1 cent and 85% move the right way.

Cents a kWh before GST. A test on past data: each row is fitted only on the quarters before it.
Live record: our first estimate made in public is for Jan to Mar 2027; we will show it against SP’s number here once SP announces it.
Oil prices can move a lot in a few weeks, and the link between oil and Singapore’s gas prices is set by contracts we can’t see. Use the estimate as a guide, not a quote.

From 2005 to 2021, the energy cost went from 11.80¢ to 15.60¢ a kWh (a yearly average), while the network cost went from 5.50¢ to 5.60¢: the swings in the tariff come almost all from energy, which follows the price of fuel.

SP Group’s national average household use, last 12 months it publishes. SP leaves out prepaid (pay-as-you-use) accounts and households that buy from a retailer.
Common mistakes about the electricity tariff
- “The tariff changes every month.” SP Group sets it once a quarter, for 1 January, 1 April, 1 July and 1 October, and announces it at the end of the quarter before. Your bill still changes every month, because your use does: the average-use table above shows by how much.
- “A cut in the tariff means my bill falls by the same share.” Only if you use the same kWh. The calculator works out both quarters at the same use, so you can see the tariff’s part on its own.
- “You have to apply for U-Save.” You don’t. The Ministry of Finance credits it straight into the household’s utilities account with SP Services, and says no action is needed by eligible households.
- “The tariff applies to everyone.” It applies to households and other low-tension users who buy from SP. A retailer sets its own price, as a fixed price or a discount off SP’s tariff; the check above compares yours.
- “Quoted prices all include GST.” Not always. SP gives the tariff both ways, and retailers’ prices can be quoted either way, so the plan check asks which yours is.

Questions people ask
What is the electricity tariff in Singapore now?
SP Group’s electricity tariff for households from 1 Oct to 31 Dec 2026 is 31.16¢ a kWh with 9% GST (28.59¢ before GST), down from 31.91¢ in Jul to Sep 2026. Our estimate for Jan to Mar 2027, before SP announces it, is about 32.95¢ before GST.
When does the electricity tariff change?
Every quarter, on 1 January, 1 April, 1 July and 1 October. SP Group announces the new tariff in a media release, usually on the last working day or two of the quarter before; the dates of its recent releases are in the timeline above.
Why does the tariff go up and down?
Almost all of the change is in the energy cost, which SP sets each quarter from the average price of natural gas over the first two and a half months of the quarter before; that gas is “tied to oil prices by commercial contracts”, in SP’s words. The other three parts are reviewed once a year. The four parts are above.
How do I work out my electricity bill?
Multiply your kWh for the month by the tariff before GST, round to the cent, then add 9% GST. A 4-room flat using 391.33 kWh at 28.59¢ pays $111.88 before GST; that is SP’s own figure in its release for October to December 2026. The calculator does it for your kWh.
Does the tariff apply if I buy from a retailer?
No. A retailer charges the price in your contract. If that price is a discount off SP’s tariff, it still moves with the tariff each quarter; a fixed price doesn’t. The check above shows how either would have compared.
Is the tariff the same for shops and offices?
SP’s release lists the same tariff for low-tension non-domestic users as for households. Larger users on high or extra-high tension supply have their own tariffs, in the same release.
Who gets U-Save, and how much?
HDB households with at least one Singaporean owner or occupier, where no member owns more than one property. In October 2026 it is $110 to $190 a credit, by flat type. The table above has each flat type and who qualifies, from the Ministry of Finance.
How we get these numbers
- A job reads SP Group’s tariff page twice a day (9:40 am and 5:40 pm), and every 15 minutes from 9 am to 9:45 pm on the 27th to the 31st of March, June, September and December, when SP announces the next quarter. It also reads the media release and the files that page links. A tariff is refused if it falls outside 10 to 60 cents, if GST doesn’t work out at 9%, or if its four parts don’t add up; the page then keeps the last good read and says when it was.
- History: EMA’s monthly tariffs on data.gov.sg to 2011, SingStat’s table M890991 (from SP Group) from 2012, and SP’s own page and file only for the quarters after SingStat’s last month. All are before GST; we add GST at the rate in force each quarter (IRAS).
- Bills: kWh × the tariff before GST, rounded to the cent, then GST: the sum SP uses. Our sums match all 176 average-bill figures in SP’s releases for the four quarters of 2026 (average use, old bill, new bill and change, for every type of home). Average use is SP’s own figure from each release, typed in by us from its table.
- U-Save amounts are from the Ministry of Finance, checked by hand on 28 Oct 2026 and re-checked on our update schedule. The estimate is ours, made as described above, and is scored against SP’s number each quarter.
- From the next announcement, we note here when we first saw the new tariff on SP’s page.
- We state SP’s published tariff as a fact, name SP and link its page; SP’s terms of use limit reproducing its website, so we quote it only where its exact words matter (how the tariff is set), and don’t copy its pages, tables or images; the figures from its tables are typed in and checked by us. Numbers.sg is not connected to SP Group, EMA or any electricity retailer, no one pays us, and this page has no affiliate links. The calculators run in your browser; nothing you type into them is sent anywhere. See our disclaimer, how we get our numbers and corrections.
