Against the past 10 years
over 99% of days, fewer rupiah
S$1 bought fewer rupiah than today on over 99% of working days in the past ten years, and on over 99% in the past year: a strong S$ by the past ten years, strong for this year too. Past year: Rp 12,774.66 (24 Nov 2025) to Rp 14,198.49 (2 Nov 2026).
Few people get the mid-market rate: most banks, cards, apps and money changers give you a little less rupiah on each dollar, or fewer dollars for your rupiah, and keep the difference. On S$1,000 changed today the gap runs from about Rp 62,197 with Wise to Rp 741,194 with OFX. Every way, side by side
Your amount, every way to change
Put in how much you are changing, either way. Rupiah can be typed the way Indonesians write them: 100rb, 1jt, 1,5 juta or 100.000. At a money changer, add the rate on its board to see what it costs you against the mid-market rate and Wise.

Wise’s rate is today’s and the mid-market rate is MAS’s rate at noon, 2 Nov, so a provider can come out a little above it when the rupiah has moved since. DBS isn’t in the table: why. Going to Indonesia: visa, arrival card, Bali’s levy, paying and cash
- No visa for up to 30 days. Singapore’s embassy in Jakarta: “Singapore passport holders can enjoy “Visa Exemption for Leisure Purpose” (valid for 30 days without option to extend) and “Visa on Arrival for Leisure Purpose” (valid for 30 days with option to extend for an additional maximum period of 30 days) at the permitted immigration checkpoints.” It lists what you need: “Passport with a minimum validity of six months” and “A return ticket or ticket to another country” (Consular notice: Travel to Indonesia (updated), 23 June 2023). Check the rules for your own trip before you go.
- The arrival card. Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration runs it online at All Indonesia: “Ajukan kartu kedatangan untuk warga negara asing sesuai kebutuhan Anda.” (Submit an arrival card for foreign nationals, as you need). Fill it in on that site.
- Going to Bali: the tourist levy. Bali’s provincial government charges a “Tourist Levy IDR 150,000” under Bali Provincial Regulation Number 2 of 2025 Amendment to Regional Regulation Number 6 of 2023 concerning the Levy for International Tourists for the Protection of Balinese Culture and Natural Environment (Love Bali). Rp 150,000 is about S$10.56 at today’s rate.
- Paying by QR code. Bank Indonesia, on the link it launched with MAS on 17 November 2023: “This linkage enables customers of participating financial institutions to make seamless cross-border retail payments using their existing mobile banking applications to scan QRIS (Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard) or NETS QR codes displayed by merchants in Indonesia and Singapore respectively.” At launch: “Participating financial institutions from Singapore are OCBC and UOB, with DBS joining at a later stage.” (Bank Indonesia). Your bank app converts the rupiah at its own rate: check it in the app before you pay.
- Pay in rupiah, not S$. A shop, hotel or ATM may offer to charge your Singapore card in S$. That is Dynamic Currency Conversion: “The exchange rate is set by the merchant or its DCC provider”, in DBS and POSB’s words, and DBS and POSB still add 1% on a credit card and 2.8% on a debit card (DBS and POSB).
- Carrying cash. Leaving Indonesia, its customs service says “uang tunai atau instrumen pembayaran lain yang nilainya paling sedikit Rp. 100.000.000,00 ( seratus juta rupiah) atau dengan mata uang asing dengan nilai setara wajib diberitahukan” (in English: cash or other payment instruments worth at least Rp 100,000,000 (one hundred million rupiah), or the equivalent in foreign currency, must be declared), and “berupa uang tunai dalam mata uang rupiah yang nilainya paling sedikit Rp. 100.000.000,00 ( seratus juta rupiah) wajib dilengkapi dengan surat izin dari Bank Indonesia (BI)” (cash in rupiah worth at least Rp 100,000,000 (one hundred million rupiah) must come with a permit from Bank Indonesia (BI)) (Bea Cukai). Rp 100 juta is about S$7,043. Leaving Singapore: “If you move physical currency and bearer negotiable instruments (or CBNI) exceeding SGD 20,000 (the prescribed amount) or its equivalent in a foreign currency into or out of Singapore, you are required to make a Cash Movement Report.” (Singapore Police Force).

Is today’s SGD to IDR rate good?
It depends which way you are changing: a rate that is good for a trip to Indonesia is bad for changing rupiah into S$. Here is today’s rate against every working day of the past year, five years and ten years.
Changing S$ into rupiah (a trip to Indonesia, or money sent there): at Rp 14,198.49 for S$1 (MAS’s rate at noon, 2 Nov), your Singapore dollars buy more rupiah than on over 99% of days in the past year, over 99% of days in the past five years and over 99% in the past ten.
Changing rupiah into S$: it runs the other way. Your rupiah buy fewer S$ today than on over 99% of days in the past year and over 99% in the past five.
| Over | Average | Fewest | Most | Days S$1 bought fewer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The past year | 13,546.26 | 12,774.6624 Nov 2025 | 14,198.492 Nov 2026 | over 99% |
| The past 5 years | 11,953.32 | 10,428.6225 Nov 2021 | 14,198.492 Nov 2026 | over 99% |
| The past 10 years | 11,140.80 | 9,247.2720 Dec 2016 | 14,198.492 Nov 2026 | over 99% |
| Since 1999 | 8,267.51 | 3,880.4228 Jun 1999 | 14,198.492 Nov 2026 | over 99% |
We don’t forecast exchange rates, and no one can say where this one goes next. What the past shows: over the past year S$1 bought between Rp 12,774.66 and Rp 14,198.49, a gap of Rp 1,423,840 (1.42 juta) on S$1,000. Changing part now and part later evens out the highs and lows; the rate alert can tell you when S$1 buys the most rupiah in a year. Rupiah notes and leftover rupiah
- Selling rupiah back. A money changer or bank buys rupiah at its own buying rate, which gives you fewer S$ than the mid-market rate. Put a changer’s “we buy” rate into the converter (choose “Rp to S$”) to see what it costs you. At the mid-market rate, Rp 1 juta is S$70.43.
- Keeping it for the next trip. Rupiah kept as notes earn nothing, and their worth in S$ moves with the rate: the chart shows how far that has gone.
Counting the zeros
Rupiah prices run to many digits, so Indonesians shorten them. ribu (rb) is a thousand: Rp 50rb is Rp 50,000. juta (jt) is a million: Rp 1,5 jt is Rp 1,500,000. miliar is a thousand million. Indonesian writes a dot where English writes a comma, and the other way round: Rp 100.000 is Rp 100,000, and 1,5 juta is 1.5 juta. The converter reads all of these.
| Rupiah | Written | S$ today |

MAS, Exchange Rates (S$ per 100 Indonesian rupiah, as of noon), from 2 January 2003; before that, the ECB euro reference rates for the rupiah and the S$ (rupiah per S$1 = rupiah per euro ÷ S$ per euro), from 4 January 1999. Every day: download the CSV.
The rupiah against the S$ over the years
Since 4 January 1999, S$1 bought the fewest rupiah, Rp 3,880.42, on 28 June 1999, and the most, Rp 14,198.49, on 2 November 2026. Today it buys Rp 14,198.49.
What it means in dollars. Ten years ago, on 2 November 2016, S$1 bought Rp 9,398.50. A Rp 1 juta villa night cost S$106.40 then and S$70.43 today, at the mid-market rate and before any change in the villa’s own price. The other way, rupiah savings of Rp 100 juta were worth S$10,640 then and S$7,043 today.
Worked out by Numbers.sg from the daily rates above (MAS’s, and the ECB’s before 2003). The record starts in January 1999, when the ECB’s series begins, so it leaves out the rupiah’s fall in 1997 and 1998. Past moves don’t say where the rate goes next.

DBS’s rupiah rate
DBS posts a telegraphic transfer rate for selling you rupiah, but no rate for buying them back. It gives that rate as S$0.0072 for Rp 100, 6:00 pm, 2 Nov, rounded to four decimal places. Rounded that far, the rate could be anywhere from about Rp 13,793 to Rp 13,986 for S$1, so we don’t put it in the table at the top beside rates worked out to the rupiah. What we can say: it is below the mid-market rate of Rp 14,198.49, by somewhere between 1.5% and 2.9%.
From the data behind DBS’s foreign exchange rates page, with DBS’s own time on it. DBS: “Log in now to retrieve actual rates for your transaction. Higher transaction amounts may qualify for even greater discounts.”
At a money changer
Each money changer sets its own rupiah rates and changes them through the day, so this page doesn’t list them. What you can do at the counter: read the board, put its rate into the converter, and see what it costs against the mid-market rate and Wise.
- Which number to read. Changing S$ for rupiah, the changer sells you rupiah: read its selling rate for IDR. Changing rupiah back, read its buying rate.
- How it’s written. Boards show rupiah for S$1 (a number like 14,100), or S$ for Rp 1,000 (like 0.0709); some show S$ for Rp 100, Rp 100,000 or Rp 1 juta. The converter takes any of them.
- Compare on the same amount. A rate a little better on paper can come with a minimum amount or apply to large notes only: ask before you change.
- Licensed or not. Money-changers in Singapore are licensed by MAS under the Payment Services Act 2019. Check a changer’s name in MAS’s Financial Institutions Directory.
Why the rate moves
MAS steers the Singapore dollar against a basket of currencies, not against the rupiah alone. “MAS manages the Singapore dollar against a basket of currencies along a typically appreciating path or crawl within a policy band.” (MAS). In its October 2026 statement, MAS kept the rate of appreciation, width and centre of the S$NEER policy band unchanged (MAS, 14 October 2026).
The rupiah has its own central bank. Bank Indonesia sets Indonesia’s policy rate and steps into the market for the rupiah. Whatever moves the rupiah against the US dollar and the rest of the world moves SGD to IDR with it, so the rate can move when nothing has changed in Singapore. Bank Indonesia’s own decisions are on its website.
Common mistakes
- “The rate on Google is what I’ll get.” A currency converter on a search page shows a market rate, much like the mid-market rate at the top of this page. Banks, apps and money changers don’t give that rate to customers; the table at the top shows what each way gives on S$1,000 today.
- “Rp 100.000 is a hundred rupiah.” Indonesian writes a dot where English writes a comma: Rp 100.000 is a hundred thousand rupiah. Counting the zeros.
- “Pay in S$ to be safe.” When a shop, hotel or ATM in Indonesia offers to charge your card in S$, the rate is set by the shop’s provider, not your bank, and your bank may still charge its fee. Pay in rupiah.
- “SGD to IDR going up is bad.” A higher number means each Singapore dollar buys more rupiah: good for a trip to Indonesia, bad for changing rupiah into S$. Is today’s rate good? shows both.

Will the rupiah go up or down against the S$?
We don’t forecast exchange rates. What this page shows is where today’s rate sits against the past year, five and ten years (is today’s rate good?) and how far it has moved before (since 1999). If your trip is months away, the rate alert emails you when S$1 buys the most rupiah in a year.

Do Singaporeans need a visa for Indonesia?
Not for a holiday of up to 30 days: Singapore’s embassy in Jakarta says Singapore passport holders can enter under Indonesia’s visa exemption for leisure, which can’t be extended. Its words, and what to carry, are in going to Indonesia; check the rules for your own trip before you go.
How much is Bali’s tourist levy in S$?
Bali’s provincial government sets it at Rp 150,000 per visitor. What that is in S$ today is in Indonesia’s set amounts.
Can I pay by QR code in Indonesia with a Singapore bank app?
Bank Indonesia says the link it launched with MAS in November 2023 lets customers of the banks taking part scan QRIS codes in Indonesia with their own mobile banking app; at launch those were OCBC and UOB, with DBS to join later. Its words are in going to Indonesia. Check your own bank’s app for its rate.
Does the rate change at weekends?
MAS and the ECB publish their rates on working days only, so the main rate here stays at the last working day’s until the next. Providers set their own weekend rates: Revolut, for one, charges 1% more on exchanges at the weekend on its Standard plan, and money changers set their own rates every day.
How we get these rates
- The main rate is MAS’s own figure for S$ per 100 Indonesian rupiah, which MAS gives “as of noon” each working day (MAS, Exchange Rates), turned into rupiah per S$1. MAS gives it to four significant figures (0.007044, say), close enough to work out the rate to the rupiah. When MAS’s site can’t be read, as during its maintenance, the main rate is the European Central Bank’s: its euro reference rates for the rupiah and the S$ give rupiah per S$1 for the same day (ECB). The page says which one it is showing. Both are read every hour from 9:15 am to 6:15 pm; at weekends and on holidays the rate stays at the last working day’s.
- Before 2003: MAS’s rupiah series starts in January 2003, so the days from 4 January 1999 are the ECB’s, crossed the same way. Labelled as such in the chart and the CSV.
- Check: MAS’s and the ECB’s rates for the same day must agree within 1%, or the job flags it for a person to look at.
- Not used, on purpose: SingStat’s monthly rupiah figures, which start in 2003 and are rounded to four decimal places of S$ per 100 rupiah (0.0072), too coarse to add anything; DBS’s posted rate as a figure, rounded the same way (what it means).
- Wise: Wise’s public price comparison (wise.com), read every hour from 9:15 am to 6:15 pm, every day, at S$100, 500, 1,000 and 5,000 and, the other way, Rp 1 juta, 5 juta, 10 juta and 50 juta. Wise’s fee there is a fixed part plus a share of the amount; we fit both to Wise’s four quotes to work out the fee on any amount. Other providers’ prices are as Wise collected them, with Wise’s times, for S$1,000 only.
- Cards: DBS and POSB’s published fees (3.25%, DBS and POSB); YouTrip’s (YouTrip) and Trust’s (Trust) own pages; Revolut Singapore, Personal Fees (Standard), version 0.8.1. Card rows use the mid-market rate in place of Visa’s or Mastercard’s own rate, which we don’t read, so they say “about”.
- Rules quoted (Singapore’s embassy in Jakarta on the visa exemption; Indonesia’s immigration directorate on the arrival card; Bali’s provincial government on its levy; Indonesia’s customs on cash; Bank Indonesia on the QR link; the Singapore Police Force on cash) are word for word from each one’s own page, read 2 Nov 2026, and re-read on our update schedule. Indonesian is quoted as written, with our English translation.
- A new rate is refused if it is outside Rp 3,000 to Rp 30,000 for S$1, or if the main rate moves more than 5% from our last read within four days; the page then keeps the last good read and says when it was.
